So Eike's objective in Chapter 2 is to seek a way to prevent the tree existing in the first place. Actions taken in one time period affect future ones for example, in Chapter 2 Eike is killed from the assassin hiding behind a tree. The chapters consist of time-traveling through the different eras, finding items, and interacting through dialogue with the non-player characters. The gameplay resembles a point and click adventure but offers a more traditional control scheme allowing the player to control Eike with the directional pad on a controller rather than using a mouse to click an area to navigate. The Digipad, a time-traveling item given to Eike by Homunculus, requires Energy Units, which the player can find scattered around the town. In each chapter, Eike dies, is resurrected by the Homunculus and travels back in time before his death with the intent of changing events to prevent it. The objective of Shadow of Memories is to guide player character Eike Kusch through the fictional German town of Lebensbaum as he travels through time to prevent and unmask his murderer. Is truly a sound that needs to be experienced for one’s self, as words truly do it no justice. Passionately delivered lines float along wilting atmospheres like they are blown by the wind. The vocal delivery is a huge standout here, with the ghostly whispers bringing to mind a cosmic Sigur Ros. Bass still provides its rock solid grounding while drums maintain a certain air of aggression to them and keys add themselves to the ether of what makes this album great. Musically, Lethian Dreams floats between genres like it was never meant to be part of the current scheme of the music industry in the first place.ĭreamily picked guitars float on top of an atmospheric base level that does no disservice to any instrument layered below it. Themes ebb and flow like the tides, feeling as though they are controlled by some heavenly body and not at all by anything of this earth. The overall product presented here is one with innumerable layers running throughout it.
Very little I can say about this album will do it much justice, as it contains that special air about it.
A surreal mix of dreamy atmosphere and tense melancholic fog, A Shadow of Memories is a musical journey through genre bending seas of dread and glory.
